Beneath the surface is a temporary exhibition event focused on forgotten and lost cultural narratives.

The proposed exhibition will be held in the Wintergardens in the Auckland Domain. The Wintergardens are built from imperialist and colonial views, which pose as a facade that severs the connection between the rich cultural history of the Auckland Domain.

The project serves as a metaphor, drawing inspiration from the sacred Totara tree, planted in memorial of the first Maori king, Te Wherowhero who lived on the domain. The tree sits silently behind the Wintergardens, concealed and overlooked, its presence a quiet testament to the neglected cultural stories.
